Hi guys,

I have another place for you to try out in Colombo. Cafe Kai at the Hilton Colombo was opened a few months ago and I can't believe I missed it! I was invited to try out almost all of their ranges but we couldn't have finished all that food by ourselves so we decided to try out varieties for all you meat lovers, vegetarians, pescatarians and for all you dessert lovers.

Cafe Latte & Mango Smoothie - My sister ordered the cafe latte and I had the mango smoothie. I absolutely loved the mango smoothie! It's quite filling just like any smoothie so ideally a smoothie and a light dish would be perfect. The cafe latte was great as well but I preferred the mango smoothie because I'm not a fan of warm beverages or coffee. However, my sister did enjoy the latte with her food.

Mediterranean Vegetable Wrap - I wanted to review one of their vegetarian options because I know quite a few of you are vegetarians. Cafe Kai has plenty of vegetarian snacks to chose from but I went with the wrap this time. This is one of my favorite vegetable wraps I have tried in Colombo! The vegetables are all grilled so they're soft and full of flavor. Make sure you try this out when you visit cafe Kai, definitely a thumbs up from me! (Rs.588)

Smoked Salmon Bagel - This was another snack that I ordered for any of you pescatarians out there. You can have the bagel heated or cold depending on what you like. I had mine cold because I prefer smoked salmon when it isn't heated. This was brought to us later on which is why I have not captured it on my blog but if you want to have a look at it, it's on my instagram. It comes with smoked salmon of course, boiled eggs and vegetables. I really enjoyed this bagel as well, let me tell you that almost everything we tried at cafe kai tasted really good so I'm probably going to have a hard time with this review (Rs.888)

Bacon & Egg Brioche Bun - This is a perfect breakfast snack to me. This was one of my sisters orders for all you bacon lovers just like her. She did enjoy it but she is not a fan of any sauces/ketchup and the bottom layer of the bun had sauce. Apart from that she did enjoy it with her cafe latte and we both agreed that it would be the perfect breakfast snack. (Rs.588)

Roast Beef, Gouda & Rye Sandwich - This was one of the best sandwiches she had ordered, she said. I managed to have a bite of the bread and gouda from the side and it tasted absolutely delicious! This sandwich is a definite must try when you visit cafe kai. I have never seen her enjoy a beef sandwich that much in my life haha! The bread is also much softer than it looks which makes it easier to eat and less messy. (Rs.488)

Rose Blanc - It's finally time to review the desserts we tried at cafe kai. I was overwhelmed with all the beautiful options to chose from so I asked a staff member to recommend us some of their best desserts. The rose blanc was the first suggestion, as it's a cake layered with white chocolate, cherries, nuts and topped with chocolate, cream and strawberries. The cakes are quite rich in taste so I would recommend sharing if you've had a heavy meal like we did. (Rs.488)

Paris Brest - This was my favorite dessert we had at cafe kai. If you like eclairs you would definitely enjoy this one! It's very similar to the filling and outer layer of an eclair but it's shaped differently and super fluffy. I highly recommend the Paris Brest! (Rs.388)

Nutella Chocolate Gem - First impressions about this dessert was how beautiful it looks. Theres so many desserts that look unique, delicate and you can tell that a lot of attention to detail has been paid by the amazing chefs. I would have to say that the Paris Brest was still my favorite even though I thought the Nutella would take over all the dessert options we tried. (Rs.388)

Chocolate Coffee Custard Doughnuts - Our eyes went to this first when we had to chose a dessert. For those of you who've tried Krispy Kreme before probably have seen a doughnut similar to this. I wanted to try this at cafe kai because it reminded me of my favorite doughnut I use to get in Abu Dhabi. This is quite large and could easily be shared by two people. The taste of the doughnut reminded me of a doughnut my grandmother use to buy me as a child. I'm sure some of you may know what I'm talking about if you try this. (Rs.350)

Strawberry & Salted Caramel Tart - The tarts were my favorite too from the desserts. We were asked to try the salted caramel tart and it is absolutely heavenly! The strawberry tart tasted great as well that we brought some home. Definitely thumbs up from me for the tarts at cafe kai!

I was honored to meet the executive chef who was full of energy and was ready to answer any of my questions, along with two other chefs. One of the chefs was previously in France and is now using his French techniques to prepare the food at cafe Kai. The staff is very friendly and helpful, however it is self service at cafe kai. I hope you guys enjoyed another one of my reviews and do let me know if you enjoyed the same dishes as I did.

Love,

Plate
