AGRA COLOMBO

Feb. 19, 2018, 5:12 a.m.

Good morning guys!

Last night I had a paid collaboration with Agra Colombo to review some of their dishes. I had been to Agra a few times before because I absolutely love the ambience at this restaurant. I think it's one of the nicest Indian restaurants in Colombo. Every night they have live music which adds to the perfect dinning experience at Agra. If you want the inside couch seating area, make sure to make a reservation before as those get reserved quite fast. We were pleased that the owner and his wife came to greet us and welcome the two of us to their restaurant. He mentioned that he had selected a few dishes himself for us to review. We were served two mocktails, wine, an assortment of their most popular appetizers, naan, curries, biriyani and dessert. I had been craving Indian food for the longest time as it's one of my favorite cuisines, so I was super excited for this review!

Mocktails - We were served the pink Agra (Rs.450) and the Agra surprise (rs.450) from their mocktail menu. I have to say that they have one of the best beverage menus at a restaurant. It goes from cocktails, to mocktails, fresh juices, tea, coffee, beer, wine and other drinks like lassi etc. The pink Agra is fresh orange, chopped pineapple with grenadine, topped with a slice of orange. This taste like a bubbly fresh orange juice which was really nice. The Agra surprise is lemonade, lime, grenadine, garnished with a cherry and it is definitely a sweet drink that you could have alongside spicy Indian food. They also served me a glass of white wine to go with my main course which I was very pleased about if you ask me.

Appetizers - We were served four of their most popular starters from the menu. The Hara bhara fingers (rs.875) are pan fried vegetables with spinach & cottage cheese. It may not look as appetizing as the others but I think even non vegetarians would love this. It was definitely one of the best things I ate last night at Agra. Tandoori prawns (rs.1475) are marinated in exotic Indian spices which are then grilled in tandoor. I don't think theres much to say about tandoori prawns, the name it self is mouth watering. If you saw clips of my review on my stories you probably would have seen how fast Nayan and I finished these starers 10/10! Lasooni prawns (rs.1475)are garlic flavored fresh prawns that are also grilled in tandoor. Since this isn't something I had tried before I liked this a little more than the tandoori prawns because the flavors were so fresh. However, both prawns were absolutely delicious! The last thing that we had was the mutton Imli boti (rs.1675) this is a preparation of boneless mutton chunks flavored with tamarind. As you guys may know I am pescatarian so I could not eat any meat from this review. Nayan was in charge of tasting all the meat options and he gave big thumbs up for the imli boti mutton. The appetizers also comes with two dips, my favorite was the chutney dip.

naan - We were severed plain naan and butter naan to go along with the three curries. Whenever I go out for Indian food I always order butter naan. It's my go to order at any Indian restaurant and even though I don't eat meat I get the chicken tikka masala or the prawn tikka masala because I'm obsessed with that gravy. The naan was pretty good as well that I ordered some separately to bring back home.

Curries - Chicken makhani (rs.1075) was my favorite out of the curries as it was the most similar to what I usually like to order. This is the universally popular "butter chicken" cooked in a creamy tomato gravy. Definite thumbs up from me and it went perfectly with the naan and the rice as well. Yellow dhal tadka (rs.675) this is yellow lentils tempered with spices that goes well with any other curry and naan. You have to order a dhal with a curry and naan at an Indian restaurant because it's just so good! The last curry that we were served was the mutton kadhai if I'm not mistaken (rs.1575) I did try the gravy out for you guys even though I never ate mutton and I have to say I really enjoyed the gravy. Although, I still prefer my butter chicken or prawn tikka masala more.

Biriyani - For the rice option we were served the chicken dum biriyani (rs.975) which is fresh chicken pieces cooked with basmati rice. I think it's a reasonable price for a biryani as it could be easily shared by two depending on your appetite. The biryani went perfectly with the curries but I do have to mention that it does not come with an egg. I know many people who like a boiled egg with their biriyani but this did not come with one. It was still good though and I am sure you can request for one.

Dessert - I have never tried a gulab jamun (Rs.525) properly so last night was the first time I tasted one. For those of you who are not familiar with it, a gulab jamun is a dumpling of reduced milk with cardamom, served warm in rose flavored syrup. It's a very famous Indian dessert that is loved by many. We were also served one of their famous ice creams, khesari kulfi (rs.900) which is kulfi with saffron. Nayan really loved this ice cream and he even spoke about it on our way home.

I hope you guys enjoyed another one of my reviews. Thank you for all the Valentines day wishes on instagram, you guys are the best! Make sure to visit Agra for dinner if you want to catch the live music as well. This is the next place on my list to take my dad out for dinner. I know he will really enjoy the atmosphere and food. For those of you who don't know theres a bar adjoining the restaurant, so you can head over to Manchester after dinning at Agra. Thank you for reading another one of my reviews, I hope you guys have a wonderful week ahead.

KAMA MIRISSA

Feb. 4, 2018, 11:58 a.m.

Hey guys!

After much DMs and inquiries about when the Kama Mirissa review will be up, it's finally here! Usually it takes me a day to get a review up but this time we spent three days editing our video footage and thats why it took some time. This review was a paid partnership with Kama Mirissa that we did last Saturday. I have been to Mirissa a few times before but I've never left the hotel and explored the beach stretch. Kama Mirissa is the perfect restaurant to hang out with your friends or family and enjoy the beach as well. I have to say that the beach looks much nicer from a birds eye view, I never knew the water was so green/blue in Mirissa.

When we arrived at the restaurant the staff was super friendly and I asked them what they would like me to review for them. She suggested a few drinks and food items thats considered some of their best dishes.

For drinks we got the espresso martini (rs.800) but we got it in the sharing option which is a giant martini since there was four of us. If you like coffee then you will definitely fall in love with this drink. It has a strong flavor of coffee which my friend enjoyed very much. We also got the passion fruit frozen margarita (rs.800) which was my favorite out of the three drinks we had. I love anything with a passion fruit flavor to it and it was the ideal drink to beat the heat. They also have multiple flavors of frozen margaritas to chose from, strawberry, raspberry, narang, mango, pineapple, watermelon and lime. The last drink we got was a custom made coconut mojito. This is a drink thats not on the menu but you can get it customized with any fruit you like. It was very similar to a pinacolada, so if you like anything thats coconut flavor you will definitely enjoy this drink as well. My sister was feeling the afternoon heat to much so she ordered a thambili (king coconut) the thambili was like any other thambili, so I'm not going to review a thambili. That reminds me! I think the perfect time to visit is in the morning or evening because it can get a little warm during the afternoon but it's not too bad.

She also wanted us to try their hot butter cuttlefish (rs.800) as it was one of their best appetizers. It was bigger pieces and not the tiny pieces you get in a Chinese restaurant which I really loved. It's also super crispy and needs to be eaten before the dish gets cold. The wood fire pizza was my favorite dish we tried at Kama Mirissa. I'm a huge pizza fan as some of you may already know, so I was pretty pleased with my pizza. They also have the option of customizing your own toppings, so if this is something you would like to try out go for it! The next thing that we tried was the tuna steak stack (rs.1600) This dish was also nice but it's not a dish I would order if I'm chilling on the beach, I personally prefer smaller dishes/finger foods or pizza. However, the portion of the dish is quite good for the price and tasted good as well.  The last dish we had was a vegetarian option which was the potato hash (rs.1200) coated in chickpeas, sun-dried tomatoes and peri peri sauce, served on a bed of homemade naan. This was quite interesting as I've never had anything like it before. I really liked the naan but I still have mixed feelings about the chick pea dish. I'm sure if you're vegetarian you've had dishes like this before and you'll like it.

We were all so full after finishing all those dishes that we did not have any space left for dessert. I'm sorry for any of you who really look forward to reading about desserts but I did not want to order and waste good food. When you do visit Kama Mirissa I look forward to hearing about the dessert you ordered.

I hope you enjoyed this review and our little video. We put a lot of hard work in to it as it was the first video using my drone. Again, I always want to thank you guys for reading my blog and for all the postiive feed back you've given me. I look forward to hearing about your time at Kama Mirissa!

MÖVENPICK COLOMBO

Jan. 23, 2018, 9:35 a.m.

Roof Top Pool & Vistas Bar

Robata Grill & Lounge

Junior Suite

AYU

Hi Guys!

Mövenpick was our first hotel review for this year which was a long over due review, but I was happy we were finally able to do it. We were upgraded to their junior suite which we really appreciated and I also think providing us with one of the best rooms helps the hotel with the review as well. I was asked to review their restaurant AYU which is all day dinning and one of their other restaurants as well. The brasserie is a French bistro within the hotel and the other is robot grill & lounge which is a Japanese restaurant. We only had time to review the all day dinning, the roof top bar and one other restaurant, so we went with the Japanese because Nayan is slightly obsessed with sushi and wanted to try it out.

VISTAS - Vistas is the roof top bar at Mövenpick Colombo with the Jacuzzi and pool on the other side over looking the ocean. It opens at 5.30pm which I highly recommend to visit the bar at that time to catch the sunset as well. We asked the waiter what he would like us to feature and he recommend us their signature drinks which was the achcharu inspired by Mövenpick Colombo, kiwi granate and a juice of our choice. The achcharu cocktail is a blend of tequila, salt infused raw mango, ambarella, pineapple, black pepper and chili flakes. The cocktail version of this is Rs.990 and the virgin is Rs.690. I love achcharu, sometimes when I'm home I'll just cut up fruit and add chili to it. It's one of my favorite things to eat and I crave for it a lot so I was really keen on trying this interesting cocktail. I absolutely LOVED this! If you like achcharu I highly recommend you try this one out. I've never had a cocktail like this before and it's definitely something you can sip on and enjoy every sip of. The Kiwi Granate comes with a special rum, pomegranate and kiwi. The prices for the cocktail and virgin are exactly the same as the achcharu drink. This one was slightly stronger for me but I did enjoy it a lot. You could ask them to reduce the ice as it comes with quite a lot of ice in it. I also also recommend you ask for a little spoon because why waste all that kiwi and pomegranate?! I didn't do it but I probably shouldn't have wasted good fruit. The juice was like any other juice, super fresh with no additional sugar added. Our drinks were served within 5-10 minutes after we ordered which I thought was pretty impressive as we got to watch them prepare them as well.

POOL & JACUZZI - The jacuzzi is closer to the bar so I did not feel comfortable relaxing while people were around me and I was the only one in it. However the pool has more privacy and you get a nice view of the ocean and sunset while having a swim. The staff by the pool were very attentive, as soon as we arrived they prepared a pool bed for us and greeted us which was really nice.

ROBATA GRILL & LOUNGE - After we enjoyed our drinks at Vistas we headed down to review their Japanese restaurant. I really like the ambience of the place so Nayan and I decided to sit at the counter so that we could see how the sushi is being prepared. From the sushi rolls Nayan ordered the California roll (crab and avocado Rs.1290) and the rainbow (tune, Salomon, shrimp, grouper & avocado placed on California roll Rs.2450). My favorite part was watching the chefs prepare these dishes, so carefully and passionately. Nayan absolutely loved the sushi rolls and he wants to visit robata grill again next week! I on the other hand do not enjoy sushi whatsoever but I do love other Japanese dishes. I ordered the Yakisoba which is fried egg noodle with bacon, shrimp & vegetables (Rs.1550). I ordered the noodles without bacon because I am pescatarian for all my new followers who did not know that. We immediately noticed that parts of my dish were moving and I thought that it was onions moving for the A/C until a couple of you told me that it was some sort of shaved fish which moves because it's finely cut. If I had known it was bits of fish scales moving I probably wouldn't have eaten the dish. I'm so glad I thought it was onions because I really did enjoy their yakisoba. The noodles were a bit like maggi but it had a really good flavor to it. We also tried their garlic rice which was my favorite of the night! I really recommend you to try a portion of their garlic rice because it is SO GOOD! It was lovely meeting the executive chef and being able to see how these dishes are being prepared. We really did enjoy our dinning experience at Robata grill.

JUNIOR SUITE - After dinner we headed up to our room where we had a complimentary fruit basket, chocolates, cookies and wine. I love the fact that we had a bath tub in the middle of our room where I was able to enjoy a warm bubble bath while watching a movie. The bathroom is well stocked with additional toothbrushes, combs, shower gel, shampoo etc. The room is quite spacious with a lounge area, a desk over looking to ocean and my favorite part is always the bed. I had such a difficult time getting out of bed in the morning but I did it for the food at Ayu. Click the link down below to check out more information about their rooms and suites,

AYU - I have been to Ayu before on a Tuesday if I remember correctly when they had newly opened. My friend and I went for their lunch buffet and we weren't to happy with the choice of mains. the starters however were fantastic, so I wanted to check their all day dinning since it's been sometime since the opening. As always their starters have a wide variety. They honestly have the best muffins I've had in such a long time! The mains at Ayu are a mix of western, Sri Lankan and Indian dishes to chose from. There is an entire bread section with Danish pastries, doughnuts, different types of bread, muffins, croissants and anything else that belongs to this family that you can think of. I also love that there is a fresh juice station which I have not seen in many Colombo hotels. There's also a hopper station and the egg hoppers were absolutely delicious! Thumbs up from me for their breakfast buffet, oh and there's also an omelette station where you can get any type of omelette or fried eggs, scrambled eggs and half boiled eggs.

Before we left Mövenpick, Nayan and I decided to have the world famous Mövenpcik ice cream which is in the lobby cafe with a selection of cupcakes and cakes. The cupcake was little dry but the ice cream was amazing as always! I hope you all enjoyed my first hotel review for this year and I hope you all have a great weekend and visit one of these restaurant!
